It’s possible that chocolates, flowers, and fancy dinners with your significant other are totally your thing – but if you’ve ever found yourself dreaming about a holiday that solely celebrates you and your girlfriends, Galentine’s Day is something you should you should be celebrating.

What is Galentine’s Day, you ask? Well – duh it’s the best day of the year.

Still a little confused? Galentine’s Day is a holiday Amy Poehler’s Parks and Recreation character, Leslie Knope, created that occurs every year on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day.

Basically, it’s like Valentine’s Day, only instead of celebrating the love you have for your significant other, you spend it with your girlfriends, who after all deserve a holiday all to themselves too.

This Friday we are celebrating a little early with our girlfriends. We are off to have dinner and watch Fifty Shades Darker – ya we aren’t afraid to admit it.

Polo in the Park Ottawa!

Mark your calendars!  This Saturday, August 27, Polo in the Park Ottawa takes place in the beautiful Wesley Clover Parks in Nepean from 10:00 – 18:00.

Yes, the day will be full of horse polo matches, but that’s not all! Away from the arena, there is children’s entertainment including horse rides, bouncy castles, and face painting.

You can also enjoy many pop-up boutiques, food concessions and refreshment area.

In the tradition of polo matches around the world, fashion and hats are a huge attraction.  We got a little crazy and created a hat and fascinator with vintage violin sheet music.

This year’s Polo in the Park will be hosting a Hat Contest with five different categories!

  • Hat-A-Tude
  • Dapper Dan
  • Too Hot to Trot
  • Colt & Filly
  •  Fresh Flowers

Registration for Hat Contest: 10:00 to 12:00
Hat Promenade: Grand Prix Ring @ 12:30
Winners Announced: Grand Prix Ring @  16:00

Polo in the Park Ottawa is a fundraising event of the Rotary Club of Ottawa South to assist community agencies to provide the important services that so many rely upon. This year’s beneficiaries include the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health and TROtt.

Polo in the Park – DIY Polo Hat

Location: Wesley Clover Parks (401 Corkston Road, Nepean)

Tickets: General: $15 // VIP: $250 // VIP Table of 10: $2,000

The Rotary Club of Ottawa South has partnered with Wesley Clover Parks and the Ottawa Polo Club to bring Ottawa the inaugural Polo in the Park fundraising event to benefit the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health and TROtt (Therapeutic Riding Association of Ottawa-Carleton).

Polo in the Park is also hosting a hat contest!! There are 5 categories this year:

  1. Hat-A-Tude
  2. Dapper Dan
  3. Too Hot to Trot
  4. Colt & Filly (Kids)
  5. Fresh Flowers

Polo is referred to as “hockey on horses” and is a unique sport with a long and compelling history. Fashion also plays a major part in polo events and is watched just as closely as the match itself. Major fashion players at these matches are hats/fascinators, cute dresses and sunglasses.

We love to get crafty and want you to as well.  So we put together a little DIY Flower Fascinator to get you inspired!

  • Plastic horses
  • Flowers (faux or real)
  • Headband
  • Hot glue gun
  • Gold paint
  • Scissors

This is a horse event. So grab your horses and paint them!

Let them dry!

Cut your flowers off the stem.

Glue the flowers to the headband.

Glue on horses to the headband.

Violà! Your finished! Now go and rock your fascinator!

How would you make your Polo Hat?

This past week has been a whirl-wind! We had our monthly #blogott meet-up with local bloggers. This month was hosted by Katrina Turnbull of Oui, c’est chic… at Equator Coffee Roasters in Westboro. We were treated with some amazing coffee/tea selections and fresh-baked treats. Shannon Hoops-Ripley was our tour-guide of the coffee-house and also enlightened all of us on Equator’s amazing work with doing directly to the coffee farmers and is part of a fair trade system. It was such a lovely and informative night! Can’t wait until our next one 🙂

This past Friday was Kay’s 27th birthday! She celebrated on Friday night with here parents and boyfriend at Vittoria Trattoria. On Saturday, Kay’s awesome boyfriend, Don, took her on a big shopping spree (she was in heaven and found lots of new beautiful pieces). Later on, she met up with friends and played Archery Tag at Archery Games.

We then went out for dinner and drinks with friends at Murray Street Kitchen. Lacey also bought Kay a super amazing gift: A Crosley X UO Sterling Vinyl Record Player.

Kay had a blast and feels so thankful for all of the love and well wishes!!

L-O-V-E is in the Air – DIY Floral Letter Tutorial

The warmer weather is slowly coming and I couldn’t be happier.  I cannot wait to see all of the snow melt away, the flowers in full bloom and love all around!

Lacey and I both follow an amazingly beautiful and talented blogger, Keiko Lynn. Keiko has posts ranging from: daily fashion, make-up tutorials, DIY, home decor and more! She has been a source of inspiration for me to get out there and try new things. Check out her page:

Keiko recently posted a DIY tutorial on how make floral letters. Keiko’s post really inspired me to take a stab at it and get in the mood for Spring! Here is a link to Keiko’s DIY floral letter tutorial:

I had to alter Keiko’s formula for the supplies for her floral letters, as I was unable to find the paper mache letters she used, so I substituted them for wooden block letters. I found most of my supplies at Michaels and the Dollar Store. Check out my altered supply list and directions:

DIY - Pic 1

  • Wood Letters;
  • Flowers;
  • Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks;
  • Wire Cutters.

DIY - Pic 3

  1. Heat your glue gun;
  2. Clip flowers with wire cutters;
  3. Glue flowers (alternating colours) onto the wood letter;
  4. Repeat for each letter until finished.

I can’t tak all of the credit for this as I had some help from my little friend, Charlotte-Mae!!

DIY - Pic 2

You definitely don’t need to follow my tutorial step-by-step. I definitely altered it from Keiko’s tutorial. Do what works best and what is easiest for you. Choose a word that means something to you or that will off-set your home.
