#OOTD – Ice Ice Skateway

We’ve found the best way to beat the winter blues is to try to get out and make the most out of it.

Ottawa was built for winters. One of our favourite things to do in the winter months is to hit up the Rideau Canal. It transforms into a 7.8km long Skateway during the winter months – it’s the World’s Largest Skating Rink. And, not to mention it is blessed with multiple BeaverTail  vendors along the way.

Although we didn’t have time to skate, we decided to make the most of the chilly weather and take a walk on the Skateway (yes, we are THOSE people…).

Look Winter Cozy-Chic

Living in Canada during the winter can be a trying time. And if you love fashion it feels almost impossible to keep your style game on point with all the layers, clunky boots and the freezing weather.

We find there are key pieces in our winter wardrobes that take us from freezing civilian to Elsa and Ana levels of winter pretty.

1. Find a warm statement jacket. We love the long maxi tweed jackets because you can dress them up or down and they always look fresh.

2. Slimming Skinnies.  Keep your bundled-up top half in check with a skinny jeans, trousers, leggings or tights as a sharp accessories combo. The slim leg will balance out a heavy coat and layers.

3.  Pile on the Knits.  Choosing your favorite knits can be tough – so what torture yourself by choosing just one?  Wear them all!  The trick is to opt for thin sweaters and cardigans and layer away, but avoiding the bulk.

4. Wear your favorite hat.  Whether it’s a beanie or a fedora – keeping your head warm is key to comfort and fashion.  The streamlined silhouette of a brimmed hat and a simple beanie will keep your ears warm and avoids the bulk when paired with a wool scarf and over-sized jacket.

5.  Statement boots.  Why not spice up your outdoor gear with a tasteful heel and a pop of colour.  If the ground is dry and your walking distances is at a minimal try spicing up your outfit with a bold boot.

See you later, Bye, 2016!

We’re supposed to regard 2016 as the worst 12 months in the history of humanity – or at least according to all the memes.

It’s true, there have been some pretty awful events this year, namely: Trump getting elected, the abundance of celebrity deaths and the rise of terrorist attacks. But it has also been a very glorious, liberating, bonkers, awe-inspiring roller-coaster of a year.

But it’s the year we took a risk.

We have always felt different and maybe a little weirder compared to other bloggers. Our personalities and styles have always set us apart, for better or worse. 2016 was a year we decided to do more for ourselves and learned not cater to others definitions of what it means to be a blogger. We also took a bit of a step back from blogging as often and events to focus an evaluate what we wanted to and be with our blog.

2016 has had some really crappy things happen but it has also been a year of growth. Always try to find the positive in all situations and strive to be your best self.

We will leave you with a quote that really stuck with us from Russian designer, Gosha, summing up 2016 perfectly:

“…there is a great international unity of young people… I feel a great energy that comes from youth all over the world. Old people can keep making wars for money, but we’ll grow up and change the world.”

Cheers to you and a happy + healthy 2017! Be the change you want to see.

Thrifty Tips – Holiday Party Edition

The holiday season is upon us – and this means holiday festivities, so looking and feeling a little glamorous may be somewhat important. There’s a slight catch, though. Christmas is often expensive and gift shopping and engagements makes any budget for a party outfit slim to nonexistent.

We are no stranger to working our wardrobes to their full potential – knowing that everyday clothing and accessories in our closet can be easily transformed into a fun festive outfit with little additions.  Sprucing up your wardrobe by adding a few smart new items to your fashion arsenal will have you ready for the Christmas party season.

Shoes Can Make a Statement – A great pair of statement heels or boots are the perfect single item for anyone who wants to spruce up her wardrobe this holiday season. An eye-catching pair can transform a simple outfit into a holiday ensemble.

Razzle Dazzle –Invest in a new jewellery item this holiday season. Much like a pair of shoes, a bold necklace or earrings can add some much-needed razzle dazzle to a dull outfit.

Makeup Matters – Did you know that you can take an outfit from day-to-night just by changing your makeup? This is a best-kept secret. If you need to look great for a holiday party, use a dark black liner and created a winged-eye look. Or, skip the eyes and just apply a dark red lip colour to give your look some instant flair.

Statement Jacket – A well-cut or striking outer layer is the last thing you put on but the first thing others see, so it makes sense to ensure that it’s a hard-working piece, regardless of what you’re wearing underneath.  Grab a fun jacket for your party and pair it with something you have in your closet at home to create an easy holiday outfit.

Christmas party season should be fun. With these tips, you can spruce up your wardrobe and look stylish for all of your holiday functions without having to spend a fortune.

5 Easy Vintage Tips

Here we are talking about vintage again; but vintage is our favorite ‘style’.

Vintage has really evolved over the years to become a mainstay in just about every closet out there. If you do not own an older piece, we suggest you get out there and thrift!

From street style to work style, women that pull an outfit together with a hint of vintage can really set a girl apart. For us, the key to wearing vintage well is to treat it like a newly, bought fresh from the shelf of a high end clothing store from this season and mix it with modern day accessories and make a piece of the past feel modern.

Here are some styling tips for how to wear your vintage:

Tip 1: Add a bold vintage coat or sweater instantly updates a sleek and modern outfit and makes you stand out from the crowd; you can make this look casual with a vintage sweater or dressier with a blazer. Look for bold colors, design, embellishments and rich textures.

Tip 2: If it is an event you are going to, try not to do black. Who hasn’t walked into a room and been faced with a sea of black dresses and suits? Wear colour! It doesn’t have to be bright but dare to stand out a little.
Hint: When wearing bold colour keep accessories simple and to a minimum or add one bold accessory in the same tone as your outfit.

Tip 3: A seamstress is a girl’s best friend. Find someone you trust and be respectful to the original design of your vintage find and go for it.

Tip 4: Be bold during the day! We think many fashion stylists and experts have become too minimalist – wear color during the day and slay it! Work in an office? So do we, this doesn’t have to stop you from wearing something avant-garde, there is also a lesson to be learned here – is that a shot of well-placed, bold color gets you noticed

Tip 5: Finally, sometimes vintage is the best choice when you want to find something that fits the mood of a themed event. We don’t mean a costume, but rather capturing the mood, an era and a feeling.
